Transformative Journeys curates and guides extraordinary touring experiences that help motorcyclists become more fully themselves.
We leverage the inherently meditative practice of motorcycling to be a platform for personal growth and change. Motorcycles force presence upon their riders, and that presence can be used to see ourselves, our lives, and our choices in a much more conscious and intentional light, enabling us to see where we truly want to go – and what needs to be left behind to get to our destination.
Through each journey of discovery – transcending fears, external pressures, and self-limiting beliefs – we help riders to understand who they truly are, be able to live their lives out loud, and fully bring their gifts to the world.
Come along for the ride!
We work with smart people
on hard problems.
We turn expertise into action.
We focus on how, when, and why we do things.
We help people feel like they belong.
Transformative Journeys events typically have both a Lead Guide and a Sweep Guide. To put it into the context of a classic hero’s journey, if the Lead Guide is Gandalf, the Sweep Guide is Aragorn.
Let’s get to know your Guides and how they create a great experience for participants:
THE LEAD GUIDE…
Is usually the rider at the front of the group, in the first position.
Plans the Journey’s route and stops.
Shows everyone the way while setting and maintaining an appropriate pace.
Leads discussions and exercises with the group.
THE SWEEP GUIDE…
Is usually the rider at the back of the group, in the last position.
Keeps track of and assists riders who may be experiencing mechanical problems or having trouble maintaining the pace.
Supports group discussions and exercises by collaborating (or observing).
Takes care of any off-motorcycle needs, such as helping participants get settled into lodging.
ALL GUIDES…
Work together to help maintain the safety and cohesion of the group.
Confer with one other at the beginning and end of every day, as well as at each stop.
Collaboratively discuss any route, running order, or pace adjustments that would benefit the group.
I’m a long-time, enthusiastic motorcyclist, having held a motorcycle license since 1976 with hundreds of thousands miles under my wheels. I’ve ridden in about a dozen countries, and have organized and led day rides, tours, and rallies in the US and Europe for more than ten years. Additionally, I’m a certified instructor with the California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP). If you’ve been active on motorcycle forums, particularly Bay Area Riders Forum, you may know me by my screen name, flying_hun, which was a nickname bestowed upon me in college.
Motorcycling has played a huge role in my life, and has been the source of much joy and some pain. It has introduced me to some of my closest and most valued friends. It is a platform from which I have seen great beauty, and experienced memorable ordeals. Motorcycling has taught me lessons that have been sometimes painful, and always useful. It has been a place where I have been able to escape distractions and encounter myself for the purpose of understanding life.
It’s this experience that I share through Transformative Journeys: the experience of using motorcycle riding to strip away all that is superfluous in order to engage with that which is most essential.
This is my passion, and it is my calling.

For me, riding with Transformative Journeys was the best way to get back on two wheels after a four-month break from riding due to work stress. Kurt’s attitude and personality lends itself to a relaxing comfortable ride no matter what your experience level. He knows every road like the back of his hand, and he knows how to pace in a way that doesn’t make you feel nervous.
If you’re looking for a tour that doesn’t feel like a tour but feels like riding with a good friend, then Transformative Journeys is for you.
